Hanna Heaton Collects Third Career Academic All-American Certificate from the College Sports Communicators

AUSTIN, Texas – Adding another record-breaking individual accolade to her ledger, Christopher Newport senior midfielder Hanna Heaton was recognized as an Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators on Wednesday afternoon. A three-time Academic All-America, Heaton earned second team plaudits following her senior season.

Heaton is one of only two Division III players earning her third Academic All-American certificate in 2025 as she joins Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, Natalie Barnouw (MIT). Among the 121 student-athletes to earn the prestigious award across all three levels of NCAA play and the NAIA, only four were three-time honorees as Barnouw and Heaton were joined by Jasmine Aikey (Stanford) and Anna Lantz (Rockhurst).

In CNU lore, Heaton also makes history as only the third student-athlete to accomplish the sensational feat three times. She joins an elite list that includes women's soccer standout Carson Pokorny (2nd team in 2017, 1st team in 2018, 1st team in 2019) and men's lacrosse legend Dylan Rice (3rd team in 2020, 2nd team in 2021, 2nd team in 2022).

With her award, Heaton caps her three-year tenure as a Captain with a third  team Academic All-America selection in 2023, a first team Academic All-America pick in 2024, and this year's second team certificate.

One of the most productive offensive standouts in CNU women's soccer history, Heaton  became just the third CNU standout to earn All-America honors multiple times when she earned first team plaudits this season.  Despite just three seasons as a Captain, Heaton concluded her tenure with 86 career points, ranking sixth all-time. She logged 29 career goals, tied for ninth, and 28 assists, good for third most in CNU history.

Those numbers include another dominant campaign in 2025 as she wrapped up her career with 21 points on eight goals and five assists. She put away four game-winning goals to lead the team and took 57 total shots during he season. Heaton was the go-to player in the biggest moments as she assisted on the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute against nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve, scored the game-winner against No. 12 Swarthmore, and added the game-winning goal in the conference semifinals before assisting on the championship-clinching goal in overtime during the title matchup.

For the second straight year, Heaton was named the C2C Offensive Player of the Year and was a first team All-League pick. A three-time first team All-Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches, she also earned back-to-back-to-back Academic All-District recognition by the CSC.

In the classroom, Heaton boasts a near-perfect GPA while studying toward a degree in Cybersecurity. She has been ranked among her peers as one of the elite student-athletes during her tenure and was a first team Scholar All-American last season, becoming just the second CNU player to ever accomplish that feat.

The Gloucester, Va. native helped lead CNU to a 14-2-3 overall record in 2025 while reaching the NCAA Tournament for a ninth consecutive season. In her career, Heaton and the Captains have posted an impressive 52-4-8 overall record for a winning percentage of 87.5 percent while outscoring opponents by a count of 147-25.
