CNU Senior Hanna Heaton Punctuates Storied Career With First Team All-American Honors from United Soccer Coaches

Complete List of 2025 All-Americans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Putting a fitting punctuation mark on her illustrious career as a Captain, senior midfielder Hanna Heaton was named a First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches on Thursday afternoon. It marks her second career selection as an All-American with both coming as part of the first team.

Continuously making history for the nationally-ranked CNU women's soccer program, Heaton becomes just the third player ever to earn first team All-American honors more than once in her career. She joins the elite club started by Gabby Gillis (2017, 2018) and joined by Riley Cook (2018, 2019, 2021).

Across the whole of the Christopher Newport Athletics Department, Heaton becomes just the 14th CNU student-athlete in any sport to garner first team All-American honors multiple times in her career. In addition to Gillis and Cook, the complete list includes Chelsie Schweers (Women's Basketball), Abby Asuncion and Brooke Billhimer (Field Hockey), Alex Price (Men's Golf), Andrew Cook and Ryan Young (Men's Lacrosse), Kelsey Winters (Women's Lacrosse), Jimmy Grace (Men's Soccer), Jessie Atkinson, Patty Maye Ohanian, and Kaitlyn Hasty (Softball).

Despite just three years as a Captain, Heaton has put together one of the finest careers in program history as she concluded her tenure with 86 career points, ranking sixth all-time at CNU, with 29 goals (T9th) and 28 assists (3rd). In her two All-American campaigns, Heaton factored into over 44 percent of the Captains' goal production by either scoring or assisting on 44 of the 99 goals scored by CNU in the last two years.

That includes another dominant season in 2025 that saw Heaton register team-high totals in every offensive category. She scored 21 points on eight goals and five assists while logging four game-winning goals. She took 57 total shots and put 29 of those attempts on target for a .509 SOG%. She scored a point in 11 of CNU's 19 games played and caught fire at the end of the season with at least one point in five of the last seven games including two of three postseason games.

Showing up under the brightest lights, Heaton assisted on a pivotal game-tying goal in the 83rd minute against nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve in an early season top-ten battle. Then, she powered CNU to victory in another bout against a nationally-ranked team when she scored a memorable winner against No. 12 Swarthmore on October 18. In the C2C Tournament, as she helped lift the Captains to a fourth conference title in five years, she scored the game-winning goal in the conference semifinals against Salisbury and then set up the title-clinching goal in overtime against UC Santa Cruz.

For the second straight year, Heaton was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and was a first team All-C2C pick. She garnered first team USC All-Region honors for the third year in a row and was also a back-to-back-to-back Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Communicators. She is only the fifth player in program history to garner Conference Player of the Year honors more than once in her career and will cap her career as one of the most decorated CNU women's soccer players in the first 30 years of the program.

The Gloucester, Va. native helped lead CNU to a 14-2-3 overall record in 2025 while reaching the NCAA Tournament for a ninth consecutive season. In her career, Heaton and the Captains have posted an impressive 52-4-8 overall record for a winning percentage of 87.5 percent while outscoring opponents by a count of 147-25.

Among the 52 All-Americans selected by the United Soccer Coaches, Heaton was one of just 11 repeat honorees. This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony on Saturday, January 17, 2026 in Philadelphia, Pa., in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
