RICHMOND, Va. -- Five Christopher Newport women's soccer players earned the distinction of All-State on Wednesday as bestowed by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). A pair of CNU players earned first team All-State nods in
Hanna Heaton and
Bella DiTommaso while
Kyleigh Gough,
Amy Sidaway, and
Lexi Hazelgrove represented a group of three second team picks.
The Captains' quintet also represented CNU as All-Region honorees in 2025. Heaton and Sidaway led the way with their third consecutive All-State certificate in 2025 while Gough picked up her second straight. Hazelgrove and DiTommaso were each honored as All-State selections for the first time.
Heaton closed out her career as a Captain with one of the most illustrious tenures in program history. She was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row and was a three-time first team All-Conference pick. She earned first team All-America plaudits for the second year in a row and led the Captains with 21 points on eight goals and five assists in 2025.
Joining her on the first team, junior defender
Bella DiTommaso was named a second team All-Region pick after leading one of the top defensive units in Division III during the 2025 campaign. Despite starting alongside two freshman, DiTommaso and the back line earned 13 shutouts in 19 games played while posting a 0.37 goals-against average. That mark ranks in the top-five all-time at CNU and DiTommaso was on the field for 98.6 percent of possible minutes during the suffocating defensive season. The defense held opponents to just 7.5 shots per game including only 3.3 on goal per contest.
The second team honorees included goalkeeper
Amy Sidaway, who was the last line of defense for the aforementioned unit. The veteran netminder ranks second among active Division III players in career shutout percentage (.569) and broke the CNU record for clean sheets with her 33rd solo stout when CNU blanked UC Santa Cruz to capture the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship. She alo ranks third all-time in wins (47), save percentage (.853), and is the all-time leader in goals-against average (0.41). In 2025, the second team All-Region pick surrendered just seven goals all season, ranking 10th nationally in GAA with a 0.38 mark that ranks as the third best single-seaosn mark in program history.
Gough helped anchor the defense as well as the three-time All-Conference player moved to center back in 2025. She started all 19 games and played 1,589 minutes during the season including full time in eight games during the year. Gough was an asset on both sides of the field as the veteran added two goals during the year and both held up as game-winning strikes. Powered by her impressive play, Gough was named a third team All-Region pick.
Rounding out the 2025 All-State picks was
Lexi Hazelgrove, who enjoyed a breakout campaign with a third team All-Region certificate. The junior midfielder blitzed out to a hot start in 2025 with two goals and an assist in the first three games and carried that momentum through the year with eight points on three goals and two helpers. She was one of the top offensive weapons for CNU and finished third on the team in total shots with 41. Additionally, she was an essential asset defensively and helped limit opposing offensive threats throughtout the year, averaging over 78 minutes played per game.
Christopher Newport captured the 2025 C2C Championship for the team's fourth conference title in five seasons. The Captains also extended the team's NCAA Tournament appearance streak to nine and finished the year with a 14-2-3 overall record.
