NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team rebounded from a tough loss Saturday to defeat regional rival Bridgewater, 9-1, Sunday afternoon at Captains Park.

Kenny Moreland put up another solid performance on the mound in his final tune-up before conference play begins next weekend. The senior hurler went eight innings, allowed one run on five hits, walked none and stuck out 12. Brother Kevin tossed a perfect ninth, recording one strikeout.

The Captains plated at least one run in each of the first six innings.

Eric Cole had a monster day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. He also stole a base.

Mike Giarrizzi had one hit and drove in one. Parker Neal and Joey Martin each finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run driven in. Alex Owen and Chris Despins each had a hit in the win.

CNU improves to 5-2 on the year while the Eagles fall to 1-2-1. Christopher Newport will be back on the field on Tuesday as they play host to VA Wesleyan.  The first pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
