2007 - Junior Year - Solidified his reputation as possibly the best pitcher in CNU history and was chosen first team all-USA South and all-Virginia Division II-III...Posted a 9-3 record with a 2.30 ERA and struck out another 90...At the close of the year he ranked first all-time in career ERA at 2.38, third in wins (22) and strikeouts (262) and fifth in innings pitched (249.2)...Among his top efforts of the year were an eight inning, two unearned run game against Methodist that he actually lost, 2-1; nine innings of one-run ball versus Ferrum in a victory and eight four-hit, shutout innings in a win over Mary Washington...He also struck out 12 in nine innings in a 4-3 victory over Bridewater...For the second straight summer he pitched for the Peninsula Pilots in the Coastal Plain Summer Collegiate League, facing mostly Division I players...He set franchise records with a total of 21 saves in 21 chances, a 1.80 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 59.2 innings...He was chosen to the league all-star team in 2007.
2006 - Sophomore Year - Added to his great freshman season with a fine sophomore year in which he was named first team all-USA South pitcher...Had a 7-4 record with a 3.12 ERA as CNU's No. 1 starter...Went eight innings, allowing just three hits and no runs with 13 strikeouts against Averett and equaled that number in eight innings with three hits and just one run versus Greensboro...Pitched seven innings, allowing no earned runs, against Castleton St. and limited N.C. Wesleyan to just one earned run in a complete game.
2005 - Freshman Year - Arguably the best freshman season ever for a CNU pitcher...He was the USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Year after going 6-2 with a 1.52 ERA...His ERA ranked 14th in the nation in Division III and his strikeouts per nine innings mark of 10.8 was 19th best...Got his first victory with a seven-inning effort against Alma (Mich.) in which he allowed just two hits and no runs...Followed that up with wins over Piedmont, Virginia Wesleyan, Shenandoah, Ferrum and N.C. Wesleyan...Had an outstanding strikeout/walk ratio of 78-14...Also had saves in two games, versus Frostburg St. and Averett...Opponents hit just .192 off him all year.
AT ROBERT E. LEE - First team all-state and first team all-region and all-Liberty District for three years for coach Dave Gardzeil. Also an all-district football player and played basketball as well. He was baseball team captain for two years and MVP three times. Set school records for most wins and strikeouts in a year as well as home runs in a game. Led the state in strikeouts as a senior.
PERSONAL - Kenneth Charles Moreland was born April 2, 1986 in Norfolk, Va. He is majoring in Political Science and is the son of Ken and Karyn Moreland. He has a brother Kevin, 20, who joined the CNU baseball team in 2006.
