WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Playing at the Kingsmill Resort, home of the 2027 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship, the Christopher Newport Captains finished 16th at the NCAA D3 Fall Preview. CNU finished at 29-over par with an 881 (297-279-305). 

On day two, the teams endured rainfall in the middle of the round, but all 18 teams managed to play out the round and finish the 54-hole event. Huntingdon College (-18) edged out Kenyon College (-16) for the team title while Mary Hardin-Baylor's Evan Acevedo (-9) captured medalist honors. 

For the Captains, Patrick O'Rourke (+1) led the team when he finished tied for 28th after a two-over par 73 in the final round. He started with nine straight pars and rattled off six more on the front with a birdie on the 173-yard par three 5th hole. 

Fischer Leggitt (+9) had the next best finish in the third round with a four-over 75. He dropped in seven straight par putts and added a birdie at the end of the run with a four on the 525-yard par five 7th hole. Just one stroke back was Jacob Foti (+7) with a five-over par 76. Foti also put together a big run with eight straight pars and finished the third round with 13 total. 

Rounding out the CNU scores on Tuesday was Christian Martin (+20) with a ten-over 81. He recorded a birdie on the 518-yard par five 3rd hole and also added nine pars in the round. 

As a team, the Captains closed out the event with a 29-over par 881 and finished ahead of Piedmont (+33) and Rochester (+34). 

Christopher Newport will return to action at the West Pines Collegiate hosted by Oglethorpe University on October 5-6.
