Patrick O'Rourke (-9) Wins Individual Medalist Honors at West Pines Collegiate

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Capping off a historic run around the West Pines GC in Georgia for two days, Christopher Newport sophomore Patrick O'Rourke (-9) won the West Pines Collegiate for his first career tournament victory. O'Rourke won the event by two strokes with a 204 (64-70-70) with three straight rounds under par to pull away from the rest of the field.

Led by O'Rourke's effort, the Captains finished fifth as a team with a nine-over par 861 (279-281-301) with two players finishing the 54-hole tournament under par. Jacob Foti (-1) was also under par through three rounds and finished 14th overall. Fischer Leggitt (+9) tied for 60th while J.P. Carr (+16) and Christian Martin (+17) finished in 89th and 93rd, respectively.

O'Rourke tied the program single round scoring performance in the second round on Monday and came back on Tuesday to put togegther another outstanding overall showing. Despite a double bogey to start the day, the second-year star was back under par by the eighth hole and finished out a 16-hole stretch at two-under before closing out with another bogey on 18. His one-under 70 was enough to hold off Ryan Gallagher (-7) from Oglethorpe for the individual win.

Adding perspective to O'Rourke's performance, the Chantilly, Va. native became just the second player in program history to register a score of 210 or better in a 54-hole tournament. He joins legendary player Alex Price, who olds the three-round record of 202 (-14) established in 2023. O'Rourke's 204 ranks second all-time and his nine-under effort in relation to par is the third best mark in program history.

Foti also strung together a long par run on Tuesday, picking ten straight in the middle of his round and finishing the day with 13 pars and one birdie. Martin added a six-over 77 in the final round and notched birdies on the 424-yard par four 16 and the 454-yard par four 1s tholes. Carr was seven-over with a 78 with one birdie on the 399-yard par four 12th hole and sank 11 pars in the final round.

The host Stormy Petrels (-17) pulled away for the team win while Shenandoah (-5) and Hampden-Sydney (-1) rounded out the top three teams. CNU finished fifth at nine-over par, tying for the sixth-lowest 54-hole tournament performance in program lore.

Christopher Newport will return to action in the final tournament of the fall season when they attack the field at the GolfWeek Fall Invitational in Miramar Beach, Florida on October 18-20.
