VERO BEACH, Fla. -- The first Golfer of the Week recognition of the season was announced by the Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC) on Wednesday with Christopher Newport sophomore Sara McCaskill hauling in the honor. She is the fourth different CNU player to be named the CWGC Golfer of the Week as the league enters its second season. 

McCaskill has enjoyed a tremendous start to her second season with back-to-back record-breaking performances at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational and the Transylvania Women's Fall Classic. She helped lift the Captains to a fifth place finish in the first tournament of the season and backed it up with a team championship at the Transylvania Women's Fall Classic. 

She started the year with a personal low with a one-over par 74 in the first round of the Lynn Schweizer Invitational. She then bested her performance the next week with her first career round under par with a one-under 71 in the second round of the Transylvania Women's Fall Classic. She tied for 17th with a 15-over 160 (74-86) in the first tournament and then captured a third-place finish with a 149 (78-71). 

In 72 holes of action this season, McCaskill leads the team with a 77.3 scoring average and has lowered her career averaged to 82.1. She has recorded par or better on 46 holes played this season, or nearly two-thirds of her total. 

The second-year star from Fort Mill, South Carolina joins three former Captains as Player of the Week selections in the CWGC. Classmate Gabi McGehee was the first recognized in 2025-26 and was followed by Taylor Davis and Katie Wagner. 

The Captains will return to the course on September 28-29 at the Tartan Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.
