CNU Women's Golf Opens Season With Top Five Finish at Lynn Schweizer Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- On the second day of the 2026 Lynn Schweizer Invitational, the Christopher Newport Captains hung on to a top-five finish in Ohio. Christopher Newport finished with at 68-over 648 (314-334) in the 36-hole event.

The course was shortened to a Par 72 track in the second round and saw team scores drop by an average of over six strokes per team. Despite the overall struggles for the field, the Captains were relatively consistent as a team with all five starters finishing with four strokes of eachother.

Rookie Madeleine Smith had the best round for the Captains on day two, firing a 10-over 82 to tie for 35th overall. Sara McCaskill, the star on day one, tied for 17th with teammate Maddie Cameron with matching 15-over par efforts. Cameron was 11-over on day two while McCaskill notched a 14-over showing. Gabi McGehee was 13-over in the second round and finished tied for 28th with an 18-over tournament while junior Taylor Davis was 12-over on day two and 41st overall with a 25-over performance.

In addition to the starting five, Cassie Sengul was 19-over in the second round for a 32-over finish.

Smith birdied her first hole on day two as she picked up her first collegiate birdie on the 326-yard par four 1st hole. She added a string of four pars before closing out the front with a 40. The back nine was similar, notching four pars and a birdie on the 305-yard par four 16th before closing with a 42.

Cameron also had a pair of birdies in the second round after sinking a two on the 160-yard par three fourth hole and a four on the 426-yard par five 15th. She matched Smith with eight pars on the round as well. Davis birdied the 348-yard par four 8th and McCaskill dropped in a three on the 327-yard par four 11th.

As a group, the Captains edged out DePauw by one stroke for a top-five finish. WashU (+23) won the event with Randolph-Macon one stroke behind for runner-up honors. Denison (+55) and Kenyon (+64) rounded out the top five.
