FARMINGTON, Pa. -- Wrapping up the third tournament of the fall season, the Christopher Newport women's golf program finished 15th out of 18 teams at the Tartan Invitational hosted by Carnegie Mellon University. The Captains (+94) concluded the 54-hole event with a 958 (324-323-311).
The 958 is a top-five performance in program history for a 54-hole event in both total score and in relation to par and the best three-round tournament since last year's 940 in the Stith Invitational. Leading the way was
Maddie Cameron with a 232 (79-72-81) to post the seventh-best 54-hole individual performance in CNU women's golf lore.
The team took the Shepherd's Rock course at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort for the third and final round on Tuesday and shaved 12 strokes off the second-round performance from Monday. Junior
Taylor Davis had the round of the day for the Captains with a two-over 74 and climbed to 65th place overall. Davis dropped in a pair of birdies and recorded 12 pars to log her finest round of the season. Davis finished out the tournament at 22-over par with a 238 (79-85-74).
Cameron finished a team-high 51st on the individual leaderboard with a 16-over par 232. In Tuesday's third round she chipped in a nine-over 81 with two birdies and eight pars.
On Tuesday, rookie
Madeleine Smith matched the single round low for her young career with a four-over 76. She climbed into a tie for 82nd with a 248 (85-87-76) and notched a pair of birdies on the back nine. Rounding out the counting scores in the final round was sophomore
Sara McCaskill with an eight-over 80 to wrap up the event with a 25-over par 241 (82-79-80). McCaskill led the team with three birdies on Tuesday and finished the event with a team-high six total over the two-day event.
Gabi McGehee had nine pars in her final round and finished with 24 total pars in the event. She finished at 41-over par in 90th place with a 257 (84-89-84).
