NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following a successful playing career with the Captains, Logan Shassian has returned to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach with the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse program as the squad prepares for the upcoming 2027 campaign.

Shassian joins a staff led by head coach Mikey Thompson, who is beginning his 12th year at the helm of the program.

"I am so excited to bring Logan back to CNU as an assistant coach," said Thompson. "Logan's lacrosse IQ is off the charts, and he's always wanted to be a coach. He loves this place and can't wait to make an impact on this team."

Concluding his career in 2025, Shassian was a key contributor during one of the most successful eras in program history. During his four-year stint with the Captains, he helped the team compile a 71-15 record while making four straight appearances in the NCAA Quarterfinals, including a berth in the Final Four in 2023.

On an individual level, Shassian solidified his spot as one of the most lethal marksmen in school history. He polished off his career with a .429 shooting percentage, which remains the third-highest in program lore. Overall, he averaged a point-per-game during his 40 appearances while registering 30 goals and 10 assists.

Capping off his career with a standout senior season in 2025, he ranked second in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference with a .404 shooting percentage while depositing 21 goals, including four man-up tallies. Along the way, he produced seven multi-goal eruptions, including a hat-trick against No. 1 Tufts on March 20.

In addition to his showcase against the top-ranked Jumbos, Shassian had a knack for stepping up in clutch situations throughout his career. During his seven appearances in the NCAA Tournament, he pocketed four goals and three assists, including a pair of daggers against Sewanee in his very first outing in the national playoffs as a freshman on May 14, 2022.

Equally successful off the field, Shassian was an Academic All-Conference honoree as a business management major at CNU.
