CNU Men's Lacrosse Announces Team Captains for 2027 Campaign

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Mark Davison and Kevin Miller have been named team captains for the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse program, while Garrett Bralley, Jackson Shaw, and Jack Wheatley will serve as assistant captains during the upcoming 2027 campaign.

Miller previously served as an assistant captain in 2026, while the four other standouts will hold a leadership position for the first time this year.

Hailed as one of the nation's leading defensemen, Davison has been recognized as an All-American during each of his last two campaigns. Also a two-time All-Conference, All-State, and All-Region selection, he ranked fourth in the league with 34 caused turnovers last year after notching 32 strips as a sophomore. A starter in 50 games over the past three seasons, he already ranks 10th in school history with 79 career takeaways while also boasting 87 ground balls and eight points, including seven goals.

Named to the 2026 Tewaaraton Award Watch List as one of the top collegiate lacrosse players in the nation, Miller has been a perennial All-American since arriving in Newport News. A dynamic playmaker, he has led the nation in assists during each of the past two years after dishing out 81 helpers as a sophomore and 78 as a junior. Entering his senior year, he already owns CNU's career record with 181 assists, while his 278 points rank third on the program's all-time charts, just 61 shy of the school standard.

A key member of the program's defensive unit, Bralley has been a consistent contributor during his three years at CNU. During his tenure, he has seen action in 34 games while stockpiling 25 caused turnovers. As a junior, he ranked sixth on the team with 19 takeaways while producing at least one strip in 12 of his appearances, including two in the third round of the NCAA Tournament against No. 13 Washington and Lee. Meanwhile, on the other end, he also ranks among the squad's most lethal long-poles with five career points.

One of CNU's most productive midfielders, Shaw has appeared in 47 career games while making 12 starts, including all five postseason battles during his junior campaign. Picking apart the opposition, he boasts 44 career points, including 25 goals. In 2026, he established a new career-high with 13 strikes, including a pair against No. 1 Tufts. Overall, he posted nine of his points against nationally-ranked competition last year, while he also helped out on the back end with eight caused turnovers and 12 ground balls.

Entering his third year with the Captains, Wheatley has been an impactful presence around the program since arriving in Newport News. Although he was sidelined for the majority of his sophomore campaign after sustaining an early-season injury, he established himself as one of the squad's top defensive standouts during a dynamite debut campaign. As a freshman in 2025, he saw action in 10 contests and averaged nearly a takeaway per game, including a strip during the program's Sweet 16 victory over No. 16 Lynchburg.

Christopher Newport will kick off the 2027 season on February 6 when the Captains host Hampden-Sydney in the opener at Jennings Family Stadium.
