With their selection, the Captains received their sixth straight bid to the NCAA Tournament. Consistently successful during the squad's recent run, Christopher Newport has advanced to the Elite Eight during each of the past five years, including Final Four berths in 2021 and 2023.
Overall, CNU will be making the program's eighth appearance in the playoffs. In addition to their most recent postseason trips, the Captains made their tournament debut in 2013 before advancing to the third round in 2018.
During the squad's previous seven trips to the NCAA Tournament, Christopher Newport boasts a 12-6 record, including an 8-1 ledger at Jennings Family Stadium. Last year, the Captains knocked off Grove City and Lynchburg at home before falling to Bowdoin in the NCAA Quarterfinals in Medford, Massachusetts.
This year's team enters the national playoffs with a 16-3 record, including an 11-1 mark at home. Battle-tested against top-flight competition, CNU has already had nine games against programs that advanced to this year's NCAA Tournament. Those contests include victories over Amherst, Gettysburg, Grove City, Ohio Northern, Roanoke, Salisbury, and Washington and Lee.
