CNU Athletics Earns Fifth Straight Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award from Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Powered by eight conference championships and six more runner-up finishes in 2025-26, the Christopher Newport Department of Athletics secured the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Trophy from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference for the ninth time in 11 years as members of the league. Additionally, the Captains earned both the men's and women's Commissioner's Awards to capture a sweep of the All-Sports Awards from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference for the fifth straight year and the seventh time in the last eight years.

Christopher Newport earned team championships in volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's indoor track and field, women's indoor track and field, women's basketball, softball, and women's tennis. The Captains have now won 98 league championship trophies in 11 years to rank third all-time behind only charter member Mary Washington (224 in 36 seasons) and Salisbury (194 in 33 seasons), who has been a member since 1993.

The Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award is presented annually to the conference member accumulating the highest percentage toward the award during the ac year. Commissioner's Award points are awarded based on each team's finish in each of the 16 C2C Championships. The championship of each sport receives points equal to the number of teams that participate in the sport and the actual number of points accrued is then divided by the amount of possible points for each school based on conference-sponsored sports.

In 2025-26, the Captains finished with 89.2 percent of possible Commissioner's Award points with 86.5, outpacing second-place Salisbury by nearly 14 percentage points. The Sea Gulls had 73 points and 75.3% of the possible Commissioner's Award points. UC Santa Cruz finished third with 62.5 points (74.4%) and was followed by Mary Washington with 64 (66%), Regent University with 28 points (35.4%), JWU Charlotte with 21.5 points (28.7%) and Warren Wilson with 16.5 points (21.2%).

In addition to the aforementioned conference crowns, the Captains also earned runner-up finishes in six more sports: women's cross country, men's basketball, men's outdoor track & field, women's outdor track & field, men's tennis, and women's lacrosse.

Powered by six conference championships, the women's side had a particularly impressive year and earned the Women's Commissioner Award with a 94.4% share of the possible points in conference sports. On the men's side, CNU narrowly edged Salisbury by one point and 2.4% to earn the sweep with an 82.6% share of the possible points.

The 2025-26 All-Sports Trophy marks the ninth overall and fifth straight for Christopher Newport. The Women's Commissioner Award has also been won nine times by the Captains while CNU secured the Men's Commissioner's Award for the seventh time.

The C2C All-Sports Award was named in December 2007 to honor the 15 years of service by former CAC Commissioner Richard C. Cook.
