HAMPTON, Va. -- Continuing a run of dominance in the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-Sports Survey, the Christopher Newport University Department of Athletics collected its third straight and fifth title in the last six years. Overall, it is the 21st time since 1997-98 that Christopher Newport has captured the All-Sports Survey championed by VaSID that recognizes the highest overall winning percentage in the state of Virginia among all non-NCAA Division I programs.
Over the course of the 2025-26 academic year, the Captains posted an overall win-loss record of 242-86-8 for a winning percentage of 73.21 percent. Washington and Lee University was second in the survey at 71.98 percent while the University of Lynchburg rounded out the top three with a 66.58 percent mark.
CNU eclipsed 72 percent winning for the fifth consecutive year and took the title by over a full percentage point ahead of the Generals. CNU finished second overall in men's sports at 71.96 percent (104-39-5) and also had the second-best mark in women's sports at 74.20 percent (138-47-3).
The Captains earned its fifth straight Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference and also finished with a top-25 effort in the Learfield Directors' Cup Standings. The sixth top-25 showing in the last eight years in the Learfield Cup was highlighted by four teams reaching at least the NCAA National Quarterfinals including a pair of NCAA National Semifinal showings from CNU Field Hockey and Men's Basketball. Both men's and women's lacrosse also advanced to the final eight. In C2C play, the Captains won six conference championships and hauled in six more runner-up finishes.
VaSID names all-state teams each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a University or Conference in the state of Virginia.
