The Captains picked up their second straight win in league play with a 21-7 triumph at Mary Washington. Against the Eagles, Jamie Smith led the victors with seven points, including five goals. Ryan Miller also had two strikes and three assists. His final helper of the game was his 30th of the year, which established a new freshman record. Previously, former standout Jackson Deal had 29 assists during his debut campaign in 2018.

Along with the top-two scorers, Kevin Miller had a hat-trick, while Jude MacLean and Randolph Campbell added three points apiece. Overall, 13 different Captains posted a goal against Mary Washington, including seniors Brady Mitchell and Luke Solomon, who both found the back of the cage for the second time this season.

Wednesday's eruption continued a lethal run for CNU. Overall, Christopher Newport is averaging 15.00 goals per game this season, which ranks 20th in the NCAA. On an individual level, Smith currently leads the country with 63 goals, while Kevin Miller is second with 50 assists.

In addition to the high-powered offense, the Captains are sixth in the nation in takeaways-per-game (14.07) and 10th in clearing percentage (.899). On the back end, Mason Bellinger sits second among all goalies with 177 total saves.

Kean is coming off of a 14-7 setback at Mary Washington last Saturday. During that game, seven different Cougars scored a goal, including Aarin Arbore, who posted his 100th career point. Meanwhile, Nick Paterno collected 11 saves, and Jake Gruzas had two takeaways and six ground balls.

So far this season, Kean has featured a successful man-up unit. The squad is 49th nationally with a .386 conversion rate. Miguel Lontok leads the squad with six power play goals, which ranks 19th in the nation. Overall, Arbore paces the Cougars with 53 total points, including 33 goals. Paterno also has a .507 save percentage and 12.03 goals-against-average.

In five previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 5-0 edge in the series. Last year, the Captains notched a pair of wins, including a 19-7 victory in the league semifinals. During that playoff tilt, Kevin Miller led the victors with six points, including five assists.

After this weekend, CNU will return home on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for a non-conference match-up with Roanoke at Jennings Family Stadium.
