Hadley Chadwick and Faith O'Connor Sweep Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Awards

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After leading the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team to a pair of victories last week, Hadley Chadwick and Faith O'Connor swept the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Awards, which were announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

O'Connor was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after she was previously recognized on March 16. Meanwhile, Chadwick was honored as the Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this year and the fourth time during her decorated career. Her four honors are tied for the most by a defensive standout in program history, equaling the totals amassed by current teammate Brookelyn Morrison and former legend Morgan Layton.

Headlining the squad's work on the back end, Chadwick was a dominant presence between the pipes while picking up a pair of wins last week. During the two contests, she played all 120 minutes while amassing 17 saves and three ground balls.

On Wednesday in a 14-11 triumph over Randolph-Macon, Chadwick registered six stops, including three on free-position attempts. After the two squads battled to an 8-8 tie in the third quarter, the senior star stoned four straight shots during an eight-minute window, which saw CNU break the deadlock and slip out to a 10-8 lead on the way to the win.

Three days later, Chadwick matched her season-high with 11 saves during an 11-9 victory over Mary Washington. Once again, the Annapolis, Maryland native came through in clutch situations throughout the contest. During a back-and-forth battle, six of her saves came with the two teams tied on the scoreboard, including a huge stop in the 50th minute, which brushed aside a potential go-ahead goal by the Eagles and spurred a late rally by the Captains.

During Saturday's contest, Chadwick also made a little history. In the fourth quarter against Mary Washington, she eclipsed 4,000 career minutes, becoming just the 25th goalie in Division III history to reach that milestone.

On the other end of the field, O'Connor made her presence felt while picking apart the opposition during a pair of impressive outbursts. Overall, the junior finished the week with a team-high 13 points, including 10 goals. She also contributed seven draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers during a well-rounded performance.

In the win over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, O'Connor established a new career-high with nine points. Her three assists also set a new personal standard, while her six goals equaled the largest eruption of her career. After the Yellow Jackets slipped out to an 8-7 lead in the third quarter, she immediately landed a game-tying strike in the 38th minute before adding three more goals in the fourth frame to lock up the come-from-behind win.

On Saturday against Mary Washington, O'Connor came back with four more tallies during the 11-9 victory. Once again, her finest work was reserved for the most important moments of the contest. After the Eagles tied the game at nine with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, the Great Falls, Virginia native scored the final two goals of the contest, including the game-winner in the 56th minute.

Aided by her work last week, O'Connor now has 57 goals this year, which already ranks 14th on the program's all-time single-season charts. That total also places her 31st on this year's national leaderboard.

Chadwick, O'Connor, and the rest of the Captains will return to action on Saturday for a 1 p.m. showdown at No. 4 Salisbury in the regular season finale.
