No. 22 CNU Women's Lacrosse to Host Senior Day Showdown against Mary Washington on Saturday at Noon

Live Stats // Video Stream

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The 22nd-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will wrap up its regular season home slate on Saturday at noon when the Captains host Mary Washington in a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference clash at Jennings Family Stadium.

Coming into the weekend, CNU sits at 11-4 on the season, including 7-1 at home. Meanwhile, Mary Washington is 8-6 with a 2-3 mark on the road.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

In addition to being the league opener for the Captains, Saturday's game will also serve as the program's annual Senior Day. Prior to the contest, CNU will recognize the squad's five-person senior class during an on-field celebration beginning at 11:50 a.m.

Together, Hadley Chadwick, Maddie Lamy, Brookelyn Morrison, Elena Sorkin, and Laci Welch have helped the team post 45 wins over the past four seasons. That is currently the second-highest total for any class since CNU joined the vaunted Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference in 2014. The group trails only the 2025 seniors, who accumulated 47 wins.

On an individual level, Morrison owns the program records for career draw controls (333) and caused turnovers (162), while Chadwick sits atop the all-time leaderboard with 42 victories. Additionally, Sorkin is fifth in school history with a 2.62 goals-per-game average, Lamy ranks among the leaders with a .529 shooting percentage while averaging nearly a point-per-game, and Welch has helped anchor a defensive unit that sits among the nation's leaders in takeaways-per-contest.

Fittingly, in their last action before Senior Day, all five veterans starred during the squad's 14-11 win over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday. During the game, Morrison became the 11th Captain to reach 200 career points while also adding a team-high five ground balls. Meanwhile, Sorkin posted her 11th straight multi-goal effort, and Lamy added a back-breaking blow in the fourth quarter that helped give CNU a little extra cushion on the way to the victory.

On the other side of the field, Chadwick hauled in six saves, including three on free-position attempts. Equally effective on the back line, Welch caused a pair of turnovers during a key run in the middle of the third quarter, which saw the hosts flip a two-goal deficit into a one-goal advantage.

In addition to the senior stars, junior Faith O'Connor established a new career-high with nine points during the win over the Yellow Jackets. That equaled the highest single-game output by a Captain since perennial All-American Kelsey Winters notched 11 in a win against Illinois Wesleyan on April 10, 2022.

During her eruption, O'Connor also set a new personal standard with three assists. With that performance, she bumped her season total to 11 helpers, becoming the sixth Captain to reach double-figures this season. In that club, she joined Sorkin, Morrison, Kate Webb, Annabella Burke, and Page Henry. It marks the first time since the 2013 season that CNU features at least half-a-dozen players with 10 or more assists.

As a team, Christopher Newport is averaging 7.53 assists per game this season, which is also the highest rate since the legendary 2013 squad set the program record with a 9.38 average. The current squad is also averaging 15.33 draws and 13.53 takeaways per outing. Both of those rates are the highest in school lore.

Mary Washington enters the weekend on a two-game roll, including a 21-1 triumph over Warren Wilson on Saturday. The 21 goals equaled the program's highest output since a 22-16 win at Meredith on March 3, 2020. Remarkably well-rounded, 17 different Eagles notched a goal in that tilt, including a pair of strikes by Anna Dube, Kimber Konen, Maura Schroeder, and Ava Windham.

Overall this season, Abigail Fisher and Sadie Laughlin are tied for the team-lead with 39 points apiece, while Dube has 17 assists and 52 draw controls. Between the pipes, Cece Van Blenis boasts a .467 save percentage and 10.36 goals-against-average, including a 16-save masterpiece during a 14-7 setback against No. 4 Salisbury on April 4.

In 28 previous meetings between the two programs, Mary Washington holds a 17-11 edge in the series. However, Christopher Newport has won the last 10 battles, including a 19-11 triumph in the semifinals of the league playoffs last year. During that contest, Morrison posted nine points for the Captains, while Chadwick collected seven saves.

After Saturday's showdown, CNU will return to action on April 25 at 1 p.m. for the regular season finale at No. 4 Salisbury.
