NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Capping off the regular season with a top-10 showdown, the fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will host No. 6 Salisbury in a Coastal Lacrosse Conference clash beginning at 3 p.m on Saturday at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 14-2 on the season, including 3-0 in league action. Meanwhile, Salisbury is 12-2 with an equally pristine 3-0 record against conference foes. The winner of Saturday's game will lock up the regular season league championship and secure the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

Regardless of Saturday's outcome, both squads have already secured a first-round bye in the playoffs and will each host a semifinal game on April 29. The league championship will be hosted by the top remaining seed on May 3.

For those fans unable to attend Saturday's game, Christopher Newport will provide a live broadcast of the contest with Andy McGregor and Jackson Deal calling all of the action. Live stats will also be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Coming into the weekend, CNU has won 16 straight home games dating back to March 26, 2025. That is currently the third-longest active streak in the nation, trailing only Rivier (18 straight home wins) and No.1 Tufts (17). It is also tied for the longest run in program history, matching an identical 16-game roll from April 19, 2016 through March 24, 2018.

In addition to boasting one of the NCAA's longest home winning streaks, Christopher Newport also sits among the national leaders in a variety of statistical categories. The Captains are fourth in the country in both takeaways-per-game (14.31) and clearing percentage (.906). Additionally, the offense is 21st in goals-per-game (15.38) and 25th in shooting percentage (.326), while the defense features the country's 16th-ranked man-down unit, which is squashing 82 percent of the opposition's power play opportunities.

On an individual level, Jamie Smith leads the entire NCAA with 72 goals, while Kevin Miller is second on the national charts with 57 assists. On the back end, Mason Bellinger is also 12th in the country with 205 saves.

Along with his work on the national stage, Miller is also approaching a program milestone. The third-year star has 160 career assists, which is one away from tying longtime legend Coby Auslander's all-time record of 161 helpers. Additionally, he has registered a point in 54 consecutive games dating back to March 15, 2024. That is one away from tying former standout Andrew Cook for the second-longest streak in program history. Cook had a 55-game run from February 12, 2022 through April 13, 2024.

Just ahead of Cook, Auslander set the program standard with a 61-game scoring streak from April 20, 2021 through March 30, 2024.

Salisbury enters Saturday on a remarkable 27-game winning streak in contests played away from Sea Gull Stadium. The team has not lost a battle on the road since a 12-10 setback at Gettysburg on February 25, 2023. That includes a 4-0 mark this season, including a 28-8 win at Kean last Saturday.

Featuring one of the nation's most successful faceoff units, Salisbury ranks third in the NCAA in faceoff percentage with a .732 rate. On an individual level, Blake Malamphy is third nationally in faceoff percentage (.749) and second in ground balls-per-game (12.57). In his career, the senior star has won 981 total faceoffs, which is the most among all active players in collegiate lacrosse.

In addition to Malamphy, Connor Herraiz leads all current players with 365 career points, while his 6.00 points-per-game average this season is the ninth-highest in the country. Meanwhile, Matt Sentowski is 14th in the NCAA in goals-against-average (8.04), while the entire team ranks fourth in scoring offense (17.50 goals per game), seventh in man-up offense (.524), and first in clearing percentage (.933).

In 22 previous match-ups between the two programs, Salisbury holds a 20-2 edge in the series, including eight straight wins dating back to 2022. Last year, the Sea Gulls picked up a pair of triumphs, including a 13-12 overtime victory in the league championship.
