NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Sophomore
Madison McKenzie was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and hauled in first team All-C2C honors to lead a trio of Christopher Newport selections in the All-Conference awards announced on Wednesday. McKenzie was joined by seniors
Hailey Kellogg and
McKenna Snively as second team All-C2C picks.
All three players garner All-Conference recognition for the first time in their careers. Christopher Newport has snagged three All-League certificates in three consecutive season and four of the last five.
McKenzie becomes just the second player in program history, and the second straight, to be selected the Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She joins last year's pick,
Hannah Orloff, after leading the Captains Chaos defense in 2025-26.
The sophomore guard from Gainesville, Va. ranks second on the team in steals and fourth in blocked shots. Her smothering defense both in the full-court press and in the half-court sets has helped lead CNU to rank in the top-ten nationally in steals per game and turnovers forced per game. The Captains rank seventh in turnovers forced (27.2) and ninth in steals per game (15.7) with McKenzie averaging 2.0 steals per game, leading the team.
In addition to her defensive prowess, McKenzie has led the team offensively throughout her second season. She is pouring in a team-high 11.9 points per game while shooting nearly 41 percent from the field. McKenzie is one of the most well-rounded players in the region; she is one of less than a dozen players in Region VI to eclipse 250 points, 80 rebounds, 50 assists, 40 steals, and 10 blocked shots this season. She has logged 16 double-digit scoring performances including a pair of 20+ point showings. McKenzie dropped in a career-high 27 points in a double-double with 10 rebounds against Arcadia on November 22.
Hailey Kellogg also earned All-Conference honors as one of only two players to start all 25 games for the Captains this year. Stepping into the full-time starting role, Kellogg has put together a career year for CNU at the point. She has dished a career-high 91 assists and became just the second player in the last seven years to do so. The veteran ranks in the top-ten nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.28) while ranking second in the conference in total assists and assists per game.
Kellogg earned Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors after the final week of the regular season when she scored a career-high 18 points against Mary Washington. She is averaging 5.3 points per game while adding 3.6 assists and 2.0 rebounds.
Rounding out the 2025-26 All-Conference selections is senior
McKenna Snively out of Chapel Hill, N.C. The shooting guard missed the first ten games of the season recovering from injury but hit the ground running as soon as she was cleared to play in her final season. Snively has scored five points or more in all 15 games played while adding six double-digit scoring performances. That includes a 30-point effort against Salisbury University as she became the first player since 2011 to record multiple 30-point performances in her career.
A dangerous threat from beyond the arc, the senior has connected on at least one triple in all 15 appearances this year while shooting over 42 percent from long range. While just short of qualifying for the minimum number of games played to appear in the NCAA Division III national statistics, that mark would rank 12th nationally and leads the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference by three-and-a-half percentage points. She ranks second on the team in scoring, pouring in 10.5 points per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the field and has added 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game this season.
Led by the three All-Conference selections, Christopher Newport ranks No. 14 in the nation according to the WBCA Coaches' Poll. The Captains are 21-4 at the conclusion of the regular season and won the C2C regular season championship to secure the top seed in this weekend's conference tournament. The Captains will take on either #4 Mary Washington or #5 UC Santa Cruz in the semifinal round on Friday, February 27 at 3:00 p.m. All C2C Championship games are being hosted by Salisbury University.
