NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport sophomore
Madison McKenzie was named a third team All-Region selection by D3hoops.com on Monday morning and extends a streak of nine straight seasons with at least one CNU women's basketball player to earn All-Region accolades.
McKenzie is the first sophomore to garner All-Region recognition since 2019-20 when Sondra Fan hauled in the honors. This season, McKenzie was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and earned first team All-Conference honors. She was named the C2C Player of the Week once this season after appearing in 28 games with 25 starts in her second year. She ranked third on the team in minutes with an average of 22.4 per game.

She knocked down 41.4 percent of her shots and buried 19 three-pointers to rank fourth on the team. Additionally, she hauled in 94 rebounds to rank fourth on the squad with 3.4 boards per game.
She led the nationally-ranked Captains defensively by ranking second on the team in steals, with 54, and adding 16 blocked shots. McKenzie recorded her first career double-double with a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds against Arcadia on November 22 and added another double-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds against Salisbury on January 17.
