Hailey Kellogg Participates in 2026 WBCA 'So You Want To Be A Coach' Program

ATLANTA, Ga. -- For the third year in a row, the Christopher Newport University women's basketball team was represented in the 23rd annual 'So You Want To Be a Coach" program as senior Hailey Kellogg participated in the event this year. The graduates of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) program attended the two-day workshop on April 3 and 4 during the WBCA Convention in Phoenix.

The 'So' program increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.

Over the last two years, Katy Rader ('24) and Gabbi San Diego ('25) represented Christopher Newport at the national convention. Prior to Rader's selection, the Captains also had Chelsie Schweers ('11) earn a spot in the prestigious program.

Kellogg, a Gainesville, Va. native, ranked 12th nationally in her senior season for assist to turnover ratio (2.20) and logged a career-high 110 assists. The veteran guard earned second team All-Conference honors and was named to the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team.

Off the court, Kellogg is a two-time Academic All-District selection and boasts a near-perfect GPA while working toward a degree in Political Science.

"So" participants learn about the administrative side of coaching, recruiting, how to get hired, skill development, the importance of knowing the rules, and how to balance work and life.

Participants must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated within the past year and must be nominated by their WBCA-member head coach. Each participant is selected based on her academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume´ and a written recommendation from their head coach.

Visit WBCA.org for more information on the "So" program.
