FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Closing out the regular season on the road, the 16th-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team will travel to face Mary Washington (10-14) for a 4:00 p.m. tipoff against the Eagles at the Anderson Center in Fredericksburg, Va. CNU improved to 20-4 with a 94-55 win against Virginia-Lynchburg on Tuesday night and carries a five-game win streak into the regular season finale.

Over the last two games, the Christopher Newport bench has exploded for 139 points to take over the top spot in the country in bench scoring. Already ranked No. 2 prior to games against Regent and Virginia-Lynchburg, the Captains scored 76 and 63, respectively, and is now averaging 39.8 points per game from the reserves.
The well-balanced offense features senior
McKenna Snively, averaging 10.8 points per game off the bench, along with 8.4 from junior
Mia Wilson. Other major contributors from the non-starters include
Sarah Pritz (6.1 ppg),
Sydney Richardson (4.2 ppg), and
Hazel Grepps (3.2 ppg). Despite recent high-scoring performances from Snively,
Madison McKenzie, and
Kendra Rigo, the Captains have registered only four 20-point single-game efforts this season as CNU relies on a high-paced rotation of players. McKenzie is pouring in a team-high 11.8 points per game in 23 games played this year.
CNU also ranks among the nation's best rebounding teams, especially on the offensive end. The Captains are fifth nationally with 19.0 O-boards per game while ranking in the top-60 in rebounding margin (+6.6) so far this season. Juniors
Elizabeth Creed (5.8 rpg) and
Jessica Dornak (5.2 rpg) lead the impressive rebounding group while
Noelle Cabiness (3.5 rpg) and
Sarah Pritz (4.0 rpg) have been the top reserves on the glass.
Mary Washington is coming off a loss to third-ranked Johns Hopkins on Wednesday night but the Eagles have won three of their last five games. Juliona Mabie has been leading the team with 10.0 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. Jenna Steadman is adding 9.1 points per game with 25 made three-pointers while also hauling in 3.4 rebounds per game.
CNU won the first matchup between the two teams this season, 69-46, with Snively leading the way scoring 12 points. Wilson added 11 and Creed had 10 points for the Captains as CNU secured the 17th straight win against the Eagles. The Captains own a 47-21 advantage in the all-time series.
Following the finale, the Captains will travel to Salisbury University for the 2026 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship. The semifinals will be played on Friday, February 27 with the winning teams advancing to the C2C Championship on Saturday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m.
