Senior Guard McKenna Snively Named to D3hoops.com National Team of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following a historic 30-point performance at Salisbury University last week, Christopher Newport senior McKenna Snively was named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week on Tuesday. She is the seventh Captain in program history to garner a spot on the weekly honor roll and the first since 2022 when Natalie Terwilliger collected the recognition.

In addition to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week selection, Snively was tapped as the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week as well. Helping lead the nationally-ranked Captains to wins at Salisbury and at home against Regent, Snively poured in 36 points while grabbing four rebounds, adding two assists, three steals, and one blocked shots in just 30 minutes of time on the floor.

Snively became the first player in head coach Bill Broderick's tenure to record multiple 30-point games and the first since Chelsie Schweers closed her career with a program-high 27 thirty-point games in 2011. One of only nine CNU players to accomplish the historic feat, Snively joins the aforementioned Schweers, Karen Barefoot (12), Pam Stewart (8), Cathy Skinner (8), Misty Hart (7), Linda Richardson (5), Alice Streetman (5), and Cynthia Allen (2). Her first 30-point performance came when she scored a career-high 32 at Pratt Institute as a freshman.

Not only did Snively pile up the points, but she did so efficiently by making 12 of her 16 attempts from the field in the two-game week. She posted one of the top shooting percentage performances in program history at Salisbury when she connected on 10-of-13 tries including a record-breaking 8-for-9 effort from beyond the arc. With two more triples against Regent, she concluded the impressive weekly showing with ten made three-pointers and moved into a tie for ninth most all-time at CNU with 115 career treys. She matched Misty Hart on the all-time list and now trails Kelly Halverson by just one three for eighth.

Seven Christopher Newport players have combined for 13 all-time selections to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week. Hart was the first honoree in 1998, earning the recognition twice, and was followed by Rasheka Barnes in 1999. Amber Hallman snagged one selection in 2004 before Schweers was pegged a record six times. Jordan Miller was named to the team in 2015 and Terwilliger wrapped up the all-time selections in 2022.

Snively and the rest of the 16th-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team will return to the court on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. to take on Virginia University of Lynchburg.
