NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior guard
McKenna Snively was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after helping lift the Captains (19-4) to a pair of wins against conference opponents this week. Snively becomes the fourth different Captain to earn the recognition in 2025-26 while collecting her first career Player of the Week certificate. Snively and the rest of the nationally-ranked CNU women's basketball team will host Virginia University of Lynchburg (3-14) in the final home game of the season at 6:00 p.m.
Showing off her sharp-shooting prowess, Snively sent CNU home from Salisbury with a win after setting a new standard for single-game shooting percentage from beyond the arc. She became just the third player in program history to connect on eight or more three's in a game more than once in her career when she finished 8-of-9 from three-point land against the Sea Gulls. At 88.9 percent efficiency, she logged the finest performance from three in the history of the program.
It marked the second time a CNU player knocked down eight three's in the Maggs Physical Activities Center at Salisbury University as Jessica Foster accomplished the same feat on February 13, 2019. The greatest road shooting performance came off the hands of legend Chelsie Schweers, who knocked down a program-record 11 triples at Meredith College on January 30, 2011.Â
Overall, Snively finished 10-of-13 in the game and posted one of the top shooting percentage performances of the last 20 years. Her former teammate, Alivia Giles (10-10) holds the CNU record while other Captains' greats like Sondra Fan (9-10), Anaya Simmons (9-11), and Jessica Daguilh (10-11) litter the list of impressive shooting days since head coach
Bill Broderick took the helm.Â
Finishing the game with 30 points, Snively became the first Captain since Broderick took over to log multiple 30-point games. She notched a career-high 32 points at Pratt Institute as a freshman and her 30 points at Salisbury marked the most by a Captain since
Gabbi San Diego poured in 32 during the NCAA Tournament at Tufts on March 11, 2023. She became just the ninth player in program history with multiple 30-point scoring efforts and did so while playing in just 21 minutes against the Sea Gulls.Â
In the second game of the week, Snively was honored and recognized on Senior Day prior to taking on Regent University. Despite playing just nine minutes against the Royals, she added six points and two more triples to lose the week having knocked down 10 of her 12 attempts from long range (.833). In just 30 minutes of action, she scored 36 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, added 2 assists, 3 steals, and one blocked shot in the two-game week.
Snively joins
Madison McKenzie,
Sarah Pritz, and
Jessica Dornak as CNU players to be named C2C Player of the Week this season. It is the first recognition for the Captains since Dornak's pick on December 22.Â
The Captains will get back to work on Tuesday evening against Virginia University of Lynchburg at 6:00 p.m. It marks the first matchup between the two programs as VUL competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). This season, VUL is 4-13 while being led by juniors Lovely Tua Link and DaNiya Warren McClure.Â
Live stats and a live video webcast will be available for all the action from the Freeman Center starting at 6:00 p.m. Following the Tuesday evening tilt, the Captains will close out the regular season on the road at Mary Washington this Saturday, February 21.Â
