OWINGS MILLS, Md. --
The third-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will face a top-10 test on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Captains square off with No. 9 Gettysburg in a neutral-site showdown at Stevenson's Mustang Stadium in Owings Mills, Maryland.

Entering the contest, CNU sits at 2-0 on the season, while Gettysburg will be making its first appearance of the year.

For those fans unable to attend the game, Gettysburg will provide live stats of the action at GettysburgSports.com. There will also be a live video stream through Stevenson's website. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport was last in action on February 7 when the Captains posted a 10-7 victory at Hampden-Sydney. Against the Tigers, Kevin Miller led the way with five points, including three assists. Jamie Smith and Ryan Miller also had two goals apiece. Coupled with their work during the opener against Elizabethtown, all three standouts have posted at least two strikes in both games this season.

On the other end of the field, Mason Bellinger pocketed 13 saves against Hampden-Sydney and was named the Coastal Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week for that performance. Additionally, Brett Kelley, AJ Rosacker, and Armer Harrison had two takeaways apiece for the victors.

So far this season, Smith leads the Captains with nine goals and is tied with Kevin Miller for the team-lead with 11 points. Meanwhile, Bellinger sports a .645 save percentage and 5.90 goals-against-average, while Grant Giunchi has won 17 of his 25 faceoffs to go along with eight ground balls.

After compiling a 15-5 record while advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals last year, Gettysburg welcomes back an impressive collection of talent in 2026. The Bullets return six of their top-eight scorers from last year, including Preseason All-American Ethan Kessler, who produced 43 points from his perch on the midfield unit in 2025. Jackson Barroll is also back after collecting a team-high 40 goals on the way to being named the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year.

On the defensive side, Will Hedley and Murphy Hoey also garnered Preseason All-American recognition. Starring as a long-stick specialist, Hedley secured 62 ground balls and forced 26 turnovers last year while also adding 14 points on the offensive end. Between the pipes, Hoey compiled a 9.88 goals-against-average and .509 save percentage while notching 190 saves during his sophomore campaign.

Saturday's battle will mark the third all-time meeting between the two programs with the Captains holding a 3-0 edge in the series. Last season, CNU upended Gettysburg, 13-4, during the Mustang Classic in Owings Mills, Maryland. During that contest, Smith led Christopher Newport with four goals, while Hoey notched eight saves for the Bullets.

After this weekend, the Captains will return to action on February 18 when they kick off a six-game homestand with a 6 p.m. showdown against Washington and Lee. That contest will also serve as the annual Virginia Lacrosse the Nations Cup.
