Unbeaten Captains Close Out Home Schedule Saturday vs. TCNJ; Victory Secures Conference Title

Live Video  //  Live Stats  //  CNU Game Notes

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -
Christopher Newport University concludes the regular season home schedule on Saturday, as the 11th-ranked Captains host the Lions of the College of New Jersey (TCNJ). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at TowneBank Stadium. The Captains have a record of 8-0 overall and top the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with a 5-0 conference mark. TCNJ has a record of 3-5 overall and 2-3 in league play.

A victory on Saturday would clinch the NJAC Championship and automatic NCAA Tournament berth for the Captains for the second straight season. Paul Crowley's squad has now won 23 consecutive regular-season games dating back to 2024.

"We're going to face a serious test on Saturday, and we have to be ready for it," Head Coach Paul Crowley said heading into the home finale. "TCNJ presents an option style offense that we haven't seen this year, so we're going to have to defend in a different way. They're a good football team, and I know they'll be prepared to play. We've turned the page from last week and we're ready for another tough NJAC battle."

Last week, in a battle of two of the top defenses in Division III, Christopher Newport escaped with a 13-12 victory over 23rd-ranked Rowan University at TowneBank Stadium. The Captains never trailed in the game, but needed a key defensive play with just three seconds left to hold on. With the Captains leading 13-6, Rowan mounted a five-play, 70-yard drive in the final minute...scoring with just three seconds left to pull within one, 13-12. The Profs elected to go for two to try to win the game in regulation, but freshman defensive back Jayden Miller deflected a pass attempt for the conversion in the end zone to secure the victory.

Christopher Newport and TCNJ will be meeting for the 11th time on the gridiron, and the Captains hold a 9-1 lead in the all-time series. The Captains have won the last seven meetings, most recently last year in Ewing, New Jersey, by a score of 27-7. TCNJ's lone win in the series came in 2017 at TowneBank Stadium, 21-19.

Saturday will be Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day at TowneBank Stadium. A pre-game ceremony will take place honoring CNU's senior class, who will be playing for the final time in the regular season at home.
