Brandon Peña and Braylon Addy Receive Offensive Honors from New Jersey Athletic Conference

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Following a 63-6 home victory on Saturday, two members of the Christopher Newport University offense received football honors Monday fom the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Sophommore quarterback Brandon Peña was selected the Offensive Player of the Week, and freshman wide receiver Braylon Addy was chosen the league's Offensive Rookie of the Week.

The Captains upped their record to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 atop the NJAC with the 63-6 Family Weekend triumph over Vermont State Castleton at TowneBank Stadium. Paul Crowley's team has now won 22 consecutive regular-season games dating back to 2024.

Peña, from Ashburn, Va., threw for four touchdowns and ran for a score, all in the opening half of the lopsided victory. He completed 19 of 27 pass attempts for 317 yards, and also ran for a 12-yard score in the second quarter. Peña's four TD tosses went to four different receivers, including three tight ends. For the season, he has now thrown for 16 scores in the first seven games, and is averaging 178 yards passing per game. This marks the third consecutive week the Captains have received the Offensive Player of the Week award, as Peña follows running backs Jordin Lennon and Alex Jreige to claim the honor.

Addy, from Bristow, Va., caught a scoring pass and also ran for a touchdown in the victory. He opened the scoring with a 10-yard TD pass from Pena in the middle of the opening quarter, and ran 16 yards for a score later in the first period. For the day, he caught six passes for 149 yards, including an 82-yard catch and run that became the longest non-scoring reception in program history. This is the second time this season Addy has received the honor, and he has now scored six touchdowns in the five games he has seen action in this season.

The Captains remain the tenth-ranked team in the nation in the new weekly Top 25 poll released Sunday by D3football.com. CNU is also again ranked eighth in the country in the latest Top 25 poll released Monday by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Christopher Newport will play Rowan University in a battle for first place in the NJAC on Saturday at TowneBank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. The Profs also improved to 4-0 in league play on Saturday with a 30-7 victory over the College of New Jersey. Christopher Newport will be conducting a food drive at Saturday's game, and any fan donating five cans of food or five non-perishable items will receive a free ticket to the game. The items will be collected and tickets distributed at the main gate of TowneBank Stadium beginning at 12:00 p.m.
