NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University senior running back Alex Jreige was honored on Monday by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Jreige was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two touchdowns in Christopher Newport's 21-14 victory on Saturday at Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J.

Jreige rushed for 96 yards on 15 carries for an average of 6.4 yards per carry. He scored both touchdowns in the second quarter of the game, the first on a two-yard plunge and the second from four yards out. He has now scored three rushing TDs this season and is averaging 66.8 yards per game on the ground. Jreige has also caught eight passes for 78 yards and a score this season over the first six games.

Jreige, from Vienna, Va., is in his first season at CNU after transferring from the University of Albany. He is averaging exactly five yards per carry on the season.

The Captains are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC, tied at the top of the league standings with Rowan University. Paul Crowley's squad has won 21 consecutive regular season games dating back to 2024. CNU is ranked tenth in the country this week in the new poll from D3football.com, and eighth in the latest poll from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

Christopher Newport will play its next three games at TowneBank Stadium, beginning this Saturday, October 24^th, vs. Vermont State-Castleton (2-4, 0-3). The game will kick off at 12 noon and will be a part of Family Weekend festivities at CNU.
