LEXINGTON, Va. -- Christopher Newport men's soccer is back in action on Wednesday night as the Captains (6-1-1) take on the sixth-ranked Generals from Washington and Lee University (8-1-0) on the road. CNU will kick off at Alston Parker Watt Field in Lexington at 6:00 p.m.

The Captains are coming off back-to-back wins at home against Batten and Marymount last week with 2-1 wins in both games. CNU is now 6-1-1 overall and have scored multiple goals in all but two games this season.

Live stats and a live video webcast ($) will be available online with links found on the men's soccer schedule at CNUsports.com.

CNU is 3-6-3 all-time against Washington and Lee and is coming off a scoreless draw against the Generals on the road last season. In the 2023 season, the Captains traveled to Lexington and captured a 2-1 win in their last trip to face Washington and Lee as the visiting team.

Senior midfielder Michael Hackworth was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after helping lead CNU to those two wins last week. Hackworth is among the team leaders in scoring this season with 10 points on three goals and four assists including one gamewinner. Senior Riley Usher is the only other Captain in double figures this season with 13 points on five goals and three assists.

Defensively, the Captains have been formidable with only ten goals allowed in nine games played for a 1.15 goals-against average. Senior goalkeeper Matt Yates has started all nine games and boasts a 1.06 GAA while a veteran back line that includes Yazan Yaghmmour, Declan Karney, Jackson Carlyon and Carson Friedlein has held foes to just 9.7 shots per game.

On the other side, Washington and Lee comes into the game riding an eight-game winning streak with six shutouts. Miles Furman has surrendered just two goals in nine starts and is among the national leaders in goals-against average with a 0.24 GAA . Offensively, Rowan Sellers leads the Generals with nine points on four goals and one assist.

Christopher Newport will return home for Senior Night on Saturday, October 10 as the Captains host Regent University at 6:00 p.m.
