SALEM, Va. -- Carrying a five-game unbeaten streak into their next matchup, the Christopher Newport women's soccer team will take on Roanoke College (5-2-3) on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Captains come into the non-conference tilt with an overall record of 5-1-3.

In the all-time series between the Captains and the Maroons, the edge in the matchup favors Christopher Newport by a count of 14-5-0. CNU has secured seven wins in a row in the series, dating back to the 2015 season.The last time Christopher Newport trekked to Salem for the matchup was on October 15, 2024 when CNU pulled away for a 6-0 win;
Lexi Hazelgrove, the hero from Wednesday night's road trip to Catholic University, scored in that game with a second-half header.
Hazelgrove's goal against Catholic was also a second-half header off a corner kick and the veteran midfielder now has four winners in her career. She is the fifth different CNU player to put away a game-winning goal in 2026 with a well-balanced offense that has seen only one player register multiple goals in junior
Ellie Diehl, with two.
Defensively, the Captains have been tough to score on in 2026 with six shutouts in nine games played. Only three goals have gotten by senior keeper
Amy Sidaway, who has played all 810 minutes and ranks among the nation's elite in goals-against average, shutouts, and save percentage. A back line that consists of
Bella DiTommaso,
Catie Borsuk,
Nora Cook, and
Malayah Warner helps hold opponents to just 8.2 shots per game.
Roanoke will look to crack the code against the sturdy CNU defense after scoring multiple goals in three of the last five games. The Maroons are coming off back-to-back 2-0 wins against Sweet Briar and Guilford. Rebecca Carr leads the offense with nine points with Lauren Fisher not far behind with eight. Both have scored three goals, as has Madalyn Szoke. In goal, Gracy Suchy has the majority of the minutes this season with an .806 save percentage and 0.88 goals-against average.
Following the Saturday afternoon matchup, the Captains will stay on the road to close out the three-game road swing with a trip to Bridgewater College. That trip is set for Saturday, October 17 at 4:00 p.m.
