LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. --
Four Captains placed in the top-20 on the individual leaderboard, while both teams registered top-10 performances as the Christopher Newport cross country squads excelled at the 11th Annual Border Battle, which was hosted by Rowan University at the Gloucester County DREAM Park.

On the women's side, CNU accumulated 113 points while finishing third at the prestigious competition. Along the way, the Captains beat nine regionally-ranked programs, including Rowan and Salisbury, who were slotted third in the Metro and Mid-Atlantic Regions, respectively.

On an individual level, Sarah Dake paced the squad with an 11th-place showing after completing the 6k in 23:14.0, while Kayla Lopez followed in immediate succession after wrapping up three seconds later. Esther Paul also threw down a top-20 effort as the first-year speedster came in 18th overall and second among freshmen. Just behind the lead pack, Lena Blagg placed 34th (24:07.3), and Courtney Mudd was 38th (24:12.0). Meanwhile, Katherine Streeter established a new course-best and finished 48th in 24:30.7, while Ella Rafat rounded out the team's top-seven in 24:49.7, which placed her 59th in the field.

The men also recorded a top-10 finish after coming in eighth with 225 points. They upended four regionally-ranked programs, including No. 8 Stockton and No. 10 Ramapo in the Metro Region.

Leading the way in the 8k, Clayton Rankin finished in the top-20 after placing 17th overall in 27:44.2. Two freshmen also established new personal-best times on Saturday. Grant Kutz was 37th in 28:16.8, which sliced 40 seconds off his PR. Moments later, Louis Dobson eclipsed his former standard by 35 seconds after crossing in 29:31.5, which slotted him 79th in the field.

In between the first-year stars, TJ Brown was 46th overall with a time of 28:29.7. Rounding out the top-seven, Nate Wilson was 83rd (29:36.9), Kevin Farnsworth placed 86th (29:40.0), and Myles Hendler-Voss came in 92nd (29:51.9).
