CNU Cross Country Heads to New Jersey for Rowan's 11th Annual Border Battle on Saturday

Live Results

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. --
The Christopher Newport cross country teams will return to action on Saturday when the Captains travel to New Jersey for Rowan University's 11th Annual Border Battle, which will take place at the Gloucester County DREAM Park.

Action gets underway with the women's championship 6k at 11 a.m., while the men will head out for the 8k at 11:45 a.m. The meet will also feature a pair of open races with the women competing at 12:30 p.m. and the men running at 1:15 p.m.

For those fans unable to attend the meet, live results will be available at RowanAthletics.com. A direct link can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Currently, 28 Captains are scheduled to take part in the meet. Of those, 20 standouts will be making a return trip to the competition. Last year, the women finished sixth at the 10th Annual Border Battle, while the men came in 12th overall.

Among the returners, Courtney Mudd and Lena Blagg both set their 6k PRs on the course in previous years. Mudd threw down her top clocking of 22:37 at last year's meet, while Blagg finished in 23:14 during the 2024 competition. Meanwhile, Sarah Dake boasts the squad's fastest time at the DREAM Park after finishing in 22:08 last fall.

On the men's side, Andrew Janetsky is primed to make his season debut and has the squad's top 8k time at the meet. Last year, he came in 14th overall with a 25:06 mark. Clayton Rankin also eclipsed the 26-minute barrier during the 2025 competition after finishing 56th in 25:53.

This year marks the sixth straight season that Christopher Newport will take part in the Border Battle. Last year's sixth-place showing by the women was their finest finish at the meet in school history, while the men had a program-best seventh-place performance in 2024.

The Captains have had a lengthy layoff since their last full appearance nearly one month ago. After hosting the CNU Invitational on September 18, Christopher Newport was scheduled to take part in the Paul Short Run earlier this month, but the meet was cut short due to excessive heat. Only five Captains were able to take part in the open portion of that competition before it was abruptly ended.

Despite the downtime, the women's team continues to earn high marks in the USTFCCCA South Region Rankings. The Captains are currently slotted third in the area, only trailing perennial powers Emory and Washington and Lee.

Following this week's action, Christopher Newport will begin its final preparations for the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships, which will be hosted by Salisbury on October 31 at Winter Place Park in Maryland.
