Dai'Vionne Fitzgerald was selected Special Teams Player of the Week, and freshman linebacker
Jackson Ambruzs was chosen Defensive Rookie of the Week following the Captains 49-14 triumph at Gettysburg College on Saturday.
White set a new mark for career touchdowns in CNU history by scoring four times against the Bullets, with three coming on pass receptions and one on a run, to give him 39 scores in 33 career games as a Captain. The Virginia Beach product finished the day with seven receptions for 70 yards, and also rushed for 47 yards on six carries. White's had tied the all-time mark with three first half touchdowns, and his 39th career score came early in the third quarter on a seven-yard pass that moved him past Tunde Ogun's previous high of 38 career touchdowns. White, who was named the NJAC's Offensive Player of the Year following his sophomore season in 2023, has now run for 30 scores and caught nine career scoring passes.
Fitzgerald, from Woodside High School in Newport News, scooped up a blocked punt early in the second quarter and returned it six yards for a score. The outstanding special teams play increased CNU's lead to 21-0, and started a quarter that would see the Captains out-score the Bullets, 28-7, en route to the 35-point victory. Fitzgerald also made two tackles in the defensive backfield for CNU.
Ambruzs, from Austin, Texas originally, led the CNU defense with six total tackles in just his second game in a CNU uniform. He made three solo stops and assisted on three other tackles. His day also included a fumble recovery as Christopher Newport improved to 2-0 to start the season.
Christopher Newport is off this weekend, and will host fourth-ranked Susquehanna University (2-0) on Saturday, September 27th, at TowneBank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m., and the game will be part of Family Weekend festivities at CNU.
