GETTYSBURG, Pa. -
Christopher Newport University heads to the Keystone State for the second game of the season on Saturday, as the Captains play at Gettysburg College. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

Paul Crowley's squad is coming off a dominant performance last Saturday in the season opener, as the Captains defeated Trine University, 38-7, at TowneBank Stadium. Now, Crowley hopes his team will continue to play well in its first road test of the season.

"It's always a bit different when you're on the road," Crowley said. "You have to maintain your focus and shut out any distractions. Last week our goal was ball security, which is always important, to limit turnovers and penalties. We did a really good job for the most part, and now we have to continue to get better in a road game."

Christopher Newport recorded its 150th all-time victory last Saturday, as the Captains opened their 25th season with the win over Trine. CNU used a second quarter surge to open a 17-point halftime lead, and held the Thunder scoreless in the second half to post the 31-point triumph at TowneBank Stadium.

Junior quarterback Connor Barry matched the CNU record by throwing for five touchdown passes, with four going to senior Colin Hart, as the Captains out-gained Trine in total yardage, 474-166. Barry was named the NJAC's Offensive Player of the Week after completing 14 of 17 passes for 271 yards, while Hart made seven receptions for 199 yards. Hart's four touchdown day sets a new mark for receiving touchdowns in a game and gives him 23 career scores. He has now scored more touchdowns than any wide receiver except Rudy Rudolph, who reached the end zone 32 times. Hart is fifth in Division III career receiving yards among active players.

The Captains fared well last year at Gettysburg, coming away with a 54-37 victory over the Bullets in a game that saw CNU jump to a 40-7 lead at halftime. This will be the third meeting of the schools, and the Captains have won both previous games. CNU also won over GC at TowneBank Stadium, 49-17, in 2023.

"We can't look back on last year's game and think that's going to happen again," Crowley continued. "They're a better team than they were, and we've got to be ready to respond. They had a tough loss last week, and will be looking to bounce back."

The Bullets of Gettysburg fell last Friday night to Juniata College, 31-30. The Bullets were 2-8 last season, and were picked to finish seventh this year in the pre-season poll of coaches in the Centennial Conference.

All CNU games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com. The pre-game show Saturday will begin at 12:30 p.m.
