Connor Barry Named NJAC Offensive Player of the Week Following Five Touchdown Performance

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Following a memorable performance on Saturday to open the new season, Christopher Newport University junior quarterback Connor Barry was honored Monday by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Vienna, Va., native was named the Offensive Player of the Week.

Barry led the Captains to a 38-7 victory over Trine University at TowneBank Stadium by throwing five touchdown passes. Barry completed 14 of 17 pass attempts for 271 yards and connected with senior Colin Hart for four of the scoring throws as CNU recorded its 150th win in program history.

Barry was named Quarterback of the Year in the state by the Touchdown Club of Richmond last year, and was also a first team All-Conference selection in the NJAC and a second team All-State honoree. He was also honored for his work in the classroom by being named to the NJAC All-Academic team.

In all last season after taking over at the quarterback spot, Barry threw for 15 scores, and also ran for four, and was intercepted just twice.

The victory Saturday opened the 25th season of Christopher Newport University football, and marked the fifth straight season-opening win for the Captains. Paul Crowley's team hits the road this week as the Captains play at Gettysburg College (Pa.) on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
