Dozier, James Sweep C2C Volleyball Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following three wins in five days, including a five-set comeback victory at No. 22 New York University, No. 25 Christopher Newport University swept the Coast-To-Coast Conference weekly individual honors that were announced Monday.

Senior Alyssa Dozier was named the C2C Offensive Player of the Week with 25 kills on a .367 hitting percentage in the Captains wins over St. Mary's (Md.) College, Montclair (N.J.) State and New York University. She had 11 kills and 10 blocks against NYU.

Senior Megan James had 33 digs, 13 coming in a five-set comeback win over the Violets. It was the fifth time in her last six games that James had double figures in blocks.

Dozier and James both set career milestones in the Captains' trip to New York City. Dozier became the fifth player in program history to break 400 blocks for her career. She now has 403, 83 short of Bailey Jensen's career record.

James broke the 1,000 mark in digs in a 3-0 win over Montclair State Friday. Now with 1,018, she is 18th in career digs at CNU. She is the first Captain to reach the 1,000-dig plateau since Sammy Carroll accomplished the feat late in the 2023 season.

CNU (6-3) has won four consecutive matches and is ranked No. 25 in the AVCA poll as of Monday. A new poll is set to be released on Tuesday.

CNU will hit the road again this weekend for the Juniata College Asics Invitational in Huntingdon, Pa. The Captains are to begin play Friday at 7 p.m. against No. 1 Juniata (7-1). CNU will face No. 4 Johns Hopkins Saturday at 1 p.m. and Nazareth University at 3 p.m.
