CNU Women's Tennis Opens 2025-26 Season With Mock Dual Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport women's tennis opened the 2025-26 season this weekend by inviting three teams to the James T. and Sarah C. Eyre Courts. CNU took on opponents from Division I Longwood University as well as Division III foes Washington and Lee University and the University of Mary Washington. 

Senior Eva Taylor had the best weekend in singles play for the Captains with a 2-1 mark including wins against both of her DIvision III opponents. She took down Mary Washington junior Evie Snyder by a final score of 6-2, 6-0 and added a win over Washington and Lee senior Riho Iijima, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6). 

Samantha Robertson also secured a win in singles play and paired with sophomore Kendal Chang for a pair of wins in doubles. Robertson defeated the Generals Allie Murrell in a marathon matchup, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4). She and Chang also added a win over Division I Longwood in doubles play, defeating Alexandra Magia and Feline van Eijkelenburg by a dominant score of 6-1. The other win for the CNU tandem came in a doubles sweep against the Generals as Chang and Robertson defeated the Custard/Jennings pairing from Washington and Lee, 6-4.. 

Lindsey Bergelin and Kylie Schaefer won one doubles match together with a 6-3 win against W&L; the final CNU victory came from newcomer Emma Carver and Erin Gross with a 7-6 (4) win against their W&L counterparts. 

CNU will return to action at the ITA Southeast Regoinals from September 26-28.
