CNU Women's Tennis Ranked No. 31 in the Final ITA Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The final rankings of the 2024-25 season were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday, listing Christopher Newpor women's tennis as the 31st-ranked team in the nation. The Captains also featured a doubles tandem ranked in the top-20 and senior Raine Weis closing out the year ranked nationally in both singles and doubles.

For the third time in her career, senior Raine Weis finished the year ranked in both singles and doubles. After becoming just the second player in program history to accomplish the feat in her freshman year, Weis became the first to do it multiple times when she closed out 2024 ranked in both disciplines. This year, she made it three of her four seasons when she finished her final campaign ranked No. 21 in the singles rankings and No. 19 in the doubles poll. With partner Kylie Schaefer, Weis finished the season ranked No. 19 in pairs play.

As a team, the Captains slotted in at No. 31 nationally while ranking No. 6 in the Atlantic South regional rankings. CNU captured a second straight Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Championship and closed out the year with a 13-7 overall record. The 13 victories matched the most wins in a season under head coach David Weiner and Christopher Newport posted a 10-3 record in home matches while going 9-2 against in-region opponents.

Weis, who was named the Conference Player of the Year for the third time in her career, also repeated as the C2C Doubles Team of the Year while collecting the C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She became the first student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship three times in her career and matched that with three doubles appearances as well. Weis wrapped up her illustrious tenure with 55 career singles wins, ranking fifth all-time, and 65 career doubles victories, second most in CNU history.

Schaefer became just the seventh Captain to compete at the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships and became the third player to compete in pairs play on the national level. She closes out the year ranked No. 19 in the nation after Weis concluded her first year ranked No. 13 and junior campaign ranked No. 11 in the doubles poll.

In the Atlantic South regional rankings, Weis ranked No. 4 in singles while Schaefer and Weis finished out the year ranked No. 4 in the doubles listing.
