Emma Carver Named Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year; Six Captains Earn All-Conference

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis announced the 2025-26 postseason awards on Friday with six Christopher Newport players earning All-Conference honors. Headlining the group of selections was Emma Carver earning the C2C Rookie of the Year plaque while earning first team All-C2C plaudits in both singles and doubles.

Carver is the first Captain since Raine Weis (2022) to earn Conference Rookie of the Year and becomes the eighth CNU player to earn the prestigious award in program history. She is one of three CNU players to garner first team recognition in both disciplines as Carver was joined by sophomore Kendal Chang and junior Kylie Schaefer. Rounding out the first team All-C2C picks in singles was sophomore Lindsey Bergelin while senior Eva Taylor and junior Samantha Robertson each collected second team honors. Taylor also earned a spot on the first team doubles squad with Carver as her partner.

In her first year as a Captain, Carver established herself as a top option in the starting lineup for 16 of the 20 total matches this season. Playing primarily at No. 5 singles, Carver piled up eight wins including a three-match winning streak at the end of the year to help CNU capture the conference championship. She added wins against six nationally-ranked teams during the Spring season.

In doubles play, the freshman paired with four partners to capture ten wins in doubles action. While playing with All-C2C doubles partner Eva Taylor, the rookie of the Year went 6-2 with a 1-0 mark at No. 2 and a 5-2 record at No. 3. Taylor also earned second team All-Conference honors in singles after registering 10 wins across three lines from 3-5 for the Captains.

Earning first team All-C2C recognition in both singles and doubles are the 2026 NCAA National Qualifiers in Kendal Chang and Kylie Schaefer. Chang is a four-time All-Conference pick with a first team singles and second team doubles pick as a freshman. Schaefer is now a six-time All-Conference pick with two first team and one second team singles certificates paired with two first team and one second team doubles nods.

This year, Chang led the Captains with 15 singles wins while playing on the top two lines. She was 15-13 overall including a 4-6 mark at No. 1 an a 7-2 record at No. 2 singles. She has piled up 30 wins over her first two years while adding 27 doubles victories. Chang and Schaefer have gone 9-4 together in doubles play, all at No. 1 this Spring. Schaefer ranks second on the team with 13 singles wins while splitting time on the top two lines with Chang, going 5-5 at No. 1 singles and 6-3 in matches at No. 2 singles.

Rounding out the first team All-Conference players in singles action is sophomore Lindsey Bergelin, who finished her second year with a career-high nine wins. She posted a 1-0 mark at No. 4, 1-3 record at No. 5, and 7-5 record at No. 6 this Spring. Earning second team All-C2C recognition in singles was Samantha Robertson, hauling in the accolade after a seven-win season including six between No. 3 and 4.

The Captains closed out the year with a 9-11 overall record and are ranked No. 9 in the Atlantic South regional rankings and No. 30 nationally in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
