Samantha Robertson and Raine Weis Named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- A pair of Christopher Newport women's tennis players achieved the standards established by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) and were recognized as Academic All-District selections on Tuesday afternoon. CNU senior Raine Weis hauls in her third consecutive Academic All-District certificate while sophomore Samantha Robertson earns the honor for the first time in her career.

Weis joins an exclusive list of just ten Christopher Newport student-athletes across all sports to earn the prestigious academic honor three or more times in her career. She joins men's tennis players Edvard Porsmyr Hansen and Ashton Legum to be recognized for a third time today, while Aimee Gibbs (Women's Cross Country), Carson Pokorny (Women's Soccer), Zoe Stauffer (Women's Track & Field), Dylan Rice (Men's Lacrosse), Abby Asuncion (Field Hockey), Adrianna DeSantis (Women's Track & Field), and Daniel Ferrante (Men's Cross Country, Track & Field) complete the impressive grouping of ten.

She will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members and first-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 3, 2025.

Robertson becomes the sixth women's tennis player in program history to garner the selection as an Academic All-District pick. Honorees must be at least a sophomore with a 3.50 cumulative GPA while also participating in at least 70 percent of her team's matches.

Christopher Newport has been led by Weis throughout her career and her senior season was no different as the Captains' most decorated player put together another outstanding year. Weis was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Doubles Team of the Year, and Scholar-Athlete of the Year when the All-Conference honors were announced last week. The senior from Ashland, Va. is ranked nationally in both singles and doubles and was selected to compete in next week's NCAA Division III Individual National Championships.

She will enter the postseason tournament ranked No. 15 in singles and No. 11 in doubles after posting an 18-4 record in singles play while adding 15 wins as a pairing. She has continued to climb the all-time charts at Christopher Newport and has etched her name among the elite with top-five win totals in victories at No. 1 in both disciplines. Equally as impressive in the classroom, Weis is majoring in Accounting and is a three-time Academic All-Conference pick.

Robertson was a second team All-Conference selection in singles and doubles this year. A second-year player, Robertson went 13-9 with 12 wins in duals and carries the longest win streak into next season with nine straight wins to close out her sophomore campaign. In doubles, she captured 10 wins at No. 2 and helped CNU post a 65.5 percent winning percentage in doubles play this season.

Robertson is majoring in Cellular, Molecular, and Physiological Biology.
