Live Stats // Video Stream

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Following a two-game road swing, the fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will return home on Saturday at noon when the Captains host Kean in a Coastal Lacrosse Conference clash at Jennings Family Stadium.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 12-2 on the season, including 7-1 at home and 1-1 against conference foes. Meanwhile, Kean is 11-3 overall, 5-2 on the road, and 1-1 in league action.

Aided by their work so far this season, both programs are highly regarded in the NCAA Power Index. In the initial NPI release, CNU currently sits fourth in the nation, while Kean is 30th. The NCAA adopted the NPI Rankings this year to determine bids and hosts for the upcoming national playoffs.

For those fans unable to attend Saturday's contest, live stats will be available at CNUsports.com. The Captains will also provide a broadcast of the game with Will Geise and Jackson Deal calling all of the action. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Last week, Christopher Newport split a pair of top-10 duels as the team knocked off No. 10 Washington and Lee, 18-13, on Monday before falling to No. 2 Salisbury, 12-9, on Saturday. In the squad's last battle against the Sea Gulls, Warner Cabaniss registered his 1000th career faceoff victory, becoming just the 15th player in NCAA history to reach that benchmark.

Aided by his work last week, Cabaniss currently ranks 30th in the NCAA with a .651 faceoff percentage this season. As a team, CNU is 21st nationally at the dot with a .650 winning percentage. Along with Cabaniss, Grant Giunchi and Connor Bade have both won 69 percent of their attempts during the 2025 campaign.

In addition to the faceoff crew, Jamie Smith is third nationally in man-up goals (10) and 18th in goals-per-game (3.57). Kevin Miller is also fifth in assists-per-game (3.29) and 26th in points-per-contest (5.07). Both standouts are also approaching single-season school records. Miller is eight assists shy of matching Coby Auslander's all-time mark of 54, while Smith is three man-up tallies away from tying Brett Jackson's school record of 13.

Although he could see his single-season record fall to Smith, Jackson is inching closer to the program's career record for man-up goals. The senior All-American currently has 22 power-play strikes, which is three shy of tying Dylan Rice's all-time standard.

Kean comes into the weekend on a three-game roll, including an 18-8 win over Penn College on Wednesday. Making his first collegiate start in that contest, sophomore Aaron Boccio erupted for eight points, including five goals. Dylan Johnson also added five strikes and four assists, while Nick Paterno pocketed eight saves in 51 minutes of action.

One of the nation's elite offensive threats, Johnson enters Saturday with a 3.12 goals-per-game rate in his career, which ranks 19th among all active players in the NCAA. Meanwhile, Nick Thorne has 247 career points, which places him 32nd among current collegiate standouts. As a team, Kean is 16th nationally with 308 points this season and 30th in shooting percentage with a .322 rate.

In three previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 3-0 edge in the series. Last year, the Captains posted a 19-7 win in Union, New Jersey. Miller led the squad with eight points in that contest, while Cabaniss went 17-for-21 on faceoffs.

Following Saturday's showdown, CNU will remain at home for a 4 p.m. match-up against Mary Washington on April 16.
