RICHMOND, Va. -- Christopher Newport freshman
Ayla Browning (+4) is in 13th place after the first round of the Max and Susan Stith Invitational to lead the Captains to a top-ten start. CNU (+29) fired an opening round 317 at The Dominion Club in Richmond.
Also finishing with sub-80 rounds after the first 18 holes were
Elena Rezac (+6) and
Julia Pelletier (+7). Pelletier's 79 was her second best round of the season after a 77 in the second round of the Westbrook Village Invitational. The junior recorded 11 pars and added a birdie on the 272-yard par four 15th. Rezac had a couple of birdies with a three on the 329-yard par four 5th hole and a four on the 530-yard par five 12th. She also sank nine pars to finish six-over.
Browning led the way for CNU with 11 pars and two birdies to finish the opening round four-over with a 76. She registered her fifth sub-80 performance in the last six rounds played with her third best single round score of the season. Browning posted her birdies on the 301-yard par four 7th and also birdied 15.
Rounding out the opening round performances for CNU was
Katie Watson (+12) and
Alex Delgado (+16).
