VERO BEACH, Fla. -- The Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC) announced its first Golfer of the Week recognition for the Spring season on Wednesday with Christopher Newport sophomore
Taylor Davis collecting the honor. Davis is the third CNU player to earn a CWGC Golfer of the Week certificate after
Gabi McGehee and
Katie Watson secured the plaudits in the fall season.
Davis opened up the spring with one of the most memorable performances in program history as she led the Captains to a historic team effort at the Savannah Invitational. She set the CNU women's golf scoring record for a single round and for a 36-hole tournament while lifting the Captains to its sixth top-ten finish in seven events to start the year.
Individually, she set a new program record in relation to par (-3) and tied the program mark overall for total strokes in the second round with a 70 on the Par 73 track. Her score shattered the previous mark by two strokes after McGehee set the record this Fall with a one-under 72 at the Transylvania Kickoff.
Additionally, Davis matched All-American Erica Whitehouse for the finest single round scoring performance by a sophomore and is the only other second-year player to notch a round under par. It was only the eighth round under par in program history and helped her finish tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard with a one-under 145 (75-70). She broke the program record for a 36-hole tournament by two strokes.
On top of the spring opener, Davis also competed in the 54-hole Jekyll Island Collegiate where she captured a 97th place finish in the talented field. She finished with a 37-over 253 (86-84-83).
This season, the second-year star ranks fourth on the team with an 80.5 stroke average with four top-20 finishes in eight total events played. She and the rest of the Captains will return to action at the Max and Susan Stith Invitational on Monday, March 30.
