Christopher Newport has won the conference tournament five years running and have captured 17 tournament titles in program history. The Captains are 15-4 since joining the conference in 2013-14 including a 6-0 mark under the C2C banner. CNU is 8-1 in the semifinal round but has never played UC Santa Cruz or Mount Mary in the semifinals.
CNU has featured eleven different leading scorers over the last 14 games, showcasing the depth of the Captains' offense in 2024-25. The Captains are pouring in 79.6 points per game and ranks as a top-ten scoring offense in Division III this season while holding opponents to just 53.1 points per game. The scoring margin is the fourth-best (+26.5) in the nation as the Captains have paired a potent offensive unit with a dominant defensive scheme.
Leading the way on both sides of the floor is the 2025 C2C Player and Defensive Player of the Year,
Hannah Orloff, as the senior forward ranks second on the team with 8.6 points per game while adding 7.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. Orloff is one of ten CNU players to record 25 or more steals this year as the Captains Chaos defense has forced nearly 800 turnovers in 25 games.
Offensively, fifth-year senior
Camille Malagar is scoring a team-best 9.8 points per game while sophomore
Elizabeth Creed is adding 7.7 points per game. Senior forward
Hannah Kaloi, an All-Region star in her junior season, has returned to the lineup following an injury and is adding nearly six points and 4.5 rebounds per game in her 12 games played this year.
The depth is also accentuated by the ability to share the ball, as Christopher Newport is averaging 18.6 assists per game. That stands as the most in nearly three decades as CNU last dished more dimes per game in 1997-98 with 19.7 per contest. The leading facilitators are fifth-year senior and first team All-Conference point guard
Gabbi San Diego alongside junior point guard
Hailey Kellogg. The duo has paired to pass for 115 assists this year while five more Captains have added 30 or more assists.
CNU will take on either a UC Santa Cruz squad that is 7-16 heading into Thursday's quarterfinals or a Mount Mary team that is 10-13. The Banana Slugs feature the C2C Rookie of the Year in Emilie Ngo and the Angels are led by a pair of All-Conference players in Vanessa Diaz and India Lucas.
The other semifinal matchup will pit #2 Salisbury against #3 Mary Washington at 4:30 p.m. (CT). The two winning teams from the semifinal round will then advance to play in Saturday's title match at 2:00 p.m. (CT). An automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship is on the line for the victor.
