CNU Women's Tennis Holds at No. 17 in National Rankings; Captains face No. 13 Trinity (Texas) and No. 5 Emory This Weekend

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's tennis team held its position at No. 17 in the nation according to the first regular season rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The 17th-ranked Captains (1-1) will open the spring schedule this weekend with a pair of nationally-ranked matchups on a neutral court hosted by Washington & Lee University.

First, the nationally-ranked Captains will take on No. 13 Trinity (Texas) on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00 a.m. The Tigers, who have raced out to a 4-0 start, will face off against the host and 10th-ranked Generals (2-0) in the first match of the heavyweight weekend on Friday, February 14 at 3:00 p.m.

Christopher Newport, ranked higher than ever before, will then face another stiff challenge on Sunday when they take on the No. 5 Emory Eagles (1-0) at Noon.

It will be just the second ever match against Trinity for the nationally-ranked Captains after the two squared off in last year's NCAA Tournament and the Tigers earned a 5-1 win. CNU is 0-2 all-time against Emory but have not faced the perennial power since 2013-14. The first matchup came in 1995-96.

All matches will be played at the Duchossois Tennis Center in Lexington, Va.
