FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After kicking off the season with a series of historic efforts at the Holiday Open, Christopher Newport track & field standouts
Ashley Eley and
Seth Morris were hailed as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Field Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The weekly honor was the fourth of Eley's award-winning tenure after she was previously recognized on January 29, 2024, January 20, 2025, and February 10, 2025. Meanwhile, Morris secured his third career accolade after garnering plaudits on December 9, 2024 and March 31, 2025.
Flashing her versatility, Eley won a pair of events while jumping into the top-25 nationally in both disciplines during her work on Saturday. Headlining her performance at the Freeman Center, the third-year star posted an 11.32-meter effort in the triple jump. That vaulted her to ninth on this year's national leaderboard and marked the third-longest effort of her career.
Additionally, Eley established a new personal-best in the high jump. During the event, she eclipsed 1.59 meters, which moved her to 24th in the NCAA this year. It also was the seventh-highest clearance in program history and the finest showing by a Captain since 2016.
Equally impressive on the men's side, Morris kicked off the 2025-26 campaign by rewriting the history books while winning both throwing events. During the meet, the junior established a new school standard in the shot put after uncorking a 16.45-meter heave. That also moved him to second on the national charts and marked the longest toss by anyone in the conference since 2016.
Earlier in the competition, Morris also made history in the weight throw. During the event, he fired a 16.64-meter missile, which added over a foot to his previous PR. It also launched him to seventh on the school's all-time performance list and 26th on the current NCAA leaderboard.
Following the winter break, Christopher Newport will return to action on January 17 at the VMI Team Challenge in Lexington, Virginia.
