NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Headlining an impressive haul of All-Conference honors following the 2025 regular season, the 14
th-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team collected three major awards from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon. Senior
Hanna Heaton repeated as the league's Offensive Player of the Year while
Addy Hennessy was named the C2C Rookie of the Year. Rounding out the top honors was head coach
Jamie Gunderson, leading the three-time defending C2C Coaching Staff of the Year, after guiding a squad filled with seven overall All-Conference selections.
Of the seven All-Conference certificates, five were named to the first team and two earned second team All-League merits. Heaton was joined on the first team by seniors
Molly Seventko (F) and
Kyleigh Gough (D) along with juniors
Lexi Hazelgrove (MF) and
Amy Sidaway (GK). Earning second team All-C2C honors was junior forward
Alex Devers and junior defender
Bella DiTommaso.
Heaton, a 2024 first team All-American, was named the Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year after another standout campaign for the Captains. She joins an elite list of just four former Captains – Ashleigh Dota, Gabby Gillis, Riley Cook, and
Reanna Slater – to be named conference player of the year more than once in her career. This season, she has started all 16 games and leads the CNU offense with 18 points (7g, 4a) heading into the postseason.
The Gloucester, Va. native has been one of the most dangerous offensive players in Division III during her tenure and ranks sixth among all active players with 0.46 assists per game over her career. She became just the second player in program history to record 25 goals and 25 assists in her career as she has climbed to seventh all-time in career points with 83 (28g, 27a). This season, she picked up three game-winning goals including a thrilling dart against nationally-ranked Swarthmore on October 18. Heaton is a three-time first team All-Conference selection for Christopher Newport.
Also picking up hardware in 2025 is newcomer
Addy Hennessy, becoming the seventh Rookie of the Year in program history. The outside back from Norfolk, Va. has started all 16 games in her first year and ranks second among field players in total minutes played with 1,393. She has participated in 96.7 percent of possible minutes for one of the nation's elite defensive units.
Hennessy has helped the Captains defense log 11 shutouts in 16 games this year, ranking 27
th nationally in shutout percentage (.667). The back line ranked ninth nationally in goals-against average (0.33) and 19
th in save percentage (.889). One of the toughest defenses to penetrate, the Captains have surrendered just 7.2 shots per game including only 3.2 per game on goal. On the other end of the field, Hennessy has added three assists.
Rounding out the major award winners in 2025, head coach
Jamie Gunderson and his staff, including assistants
Sean Killion and
Brian Lybert, have been named the C2C Coaching Staff of the Year for the third straight season. Continuing to guide one of the most challenging teams to beat in Division III, the Captains improved to 91-3-12 in four seasons with Gunderson at the helm for a winning percentage of 91.5 percent.
This season, Gunderson has led a top-25 team from the start of the year that has been ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation while not dropping lower than 14
th. CNU boasts a top-20 winning percentage in Division III (.867) and currently ranks 11
th in the NCAA Power Index, a system used to objectively rank teams for tournament selection and seeding. The Captains earned the top seed in this weeks C2C Tournament and is looking to capture the seventh conference championship since 2016 and fourth in the last five seasons.
On top of the major honorees, the All-Conference teams featured seven CNU players. First team forward
Molly Seventko has enjoyed a career year in her final season as the senior has scored 11 points on four goals and three assists. Earning her first career All-League selection, she has one game-winning goal and has a dangerously accurate shot, putting 58.6 percent of her attempts on frame.
Lexi Hazelgrove also earned her first career All-Conference nod after starting all 16 games in the midfield for CNU. She has three goals and two assists for eight points while also helping control the defensive efforts for the Captains.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior
Kyleigh Gough was named a first team All-C2C pick for the first time while she collected her third career All-Conference selection. Moving to the back line, Gough has been a huge part of the Captains' success defensively while ranking third on the team among field players with 1,322 minutes played. Rounding out the first team picks was goalkeeper
Amy Sidaway. The Shelby Township, Mich. netminder made history for the Captains by becoming the first goalkeeper in program history to earn first team All-Conference honors three times in her career. Sidaway ranks 11
th in Division III with a 0.34 goals-against average and 22
nd in save percentage with an .886 mark. She has eight solo shutouts this year while playing in all eleven for the Captains.
Adding to the defensive dominance was second team All-Conference defender
Bella DiTommaso. The junior has played in all but eight minutes this season – 99.4 percent of possible minutes – while helping lock down opposing defenses. She has also added two goals and two assists to rank fifth on the team in scoring with six points. Finally, junior
Alex Devers earned her first career All-Conference pick after scoring four goals in 13 games this year. She put away two game-winning goals and logged 49 total shots this year for CNU.
The nationally-ranked Captains closed the regular season with a 12-1-3 overall record and earned the league's top seed in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament starting this Thursday. The postseason event will be hosted by Salisbury University and the Captains will face their first matchup in the semifinal round against either #4 Salisbury or #5 Johnson & Wales – Charlotte. Kickoff on Friday is set for 11:00 a.m.
