HAMPTON, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of the 2025-26 season with the second day of the Hampton University Mock Dual Invite. On day two, the Captains faced opponents from Division I North Carolina Central University.
The Captains won multiple games in nearly every matchup on Sunday including an impressive outing in doubles play. While taking on the Division I foe,
Lindsey Bergelin and
Kylie Schaefer were edged out in a 6-4 final while
Emma Carver and
Erin Gross dropped a 6-3 decision.
In singles,
Kendal Chang had the best showing against her Division I opponent, Alejandro Hidalgo Vega, as she earned a first-set victory against the Eagle, 6-3. Hidalgo Vega bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second set and the tiebreaker was back-and-forth until the NC Central player slipped by Chang 10-6.
Schaefer extended her opponent, Valerina San Miguel Soria, to a seventh game in the second set before falling 6-2, 7-5, and both
Samantha Robertson and Bergelin captured three games in their matchup.
CNU will next play on Saturday, January 31 when the Captains take on Hampton University at home. The match time against the Division I Pirates is set for Noon.
