A pair of veteran Captains are climbing the all-time charts at Christopher Newport as fifth-year senior point guard
Gabbi San Diego now ranks tenth in career assists with 333 and senior forward
Hannah Orloff ranks fourth in career blocks with 128. San Diego also ranks 22nd nationally among active Division III players while Orloff ranks 25th among active players in rejections.
Also in the national rankings among active players is graduate transfer
Sydney Sherman, ranking 40th in career games played with 102. Sherman played 83 games at Mary Washington before transferring to Christopher Newport in 2024-25 and contributing as one of only six Captains to play in all 19 games this season. An All-Conference forward for the Eagles, Sherman has started seven games for CNU and is averaging over 13 minutes per game while knocking down nearly 45 percent of her shots.
The Captains rank fifth nationally in scoring offense, pouring in 81.2 points per game, without a single player averaging double figures. The depth and balance has led to CNU ranking third in the country in scoring margin, outpacing opponents by an average of 27.2 points per game. The bench scoring is the second-highest in the country, dropping in 48.2 points per game.
Mary Washington will counter with the second-ranked scoring defense in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference as the Eagles have held opponents to just 56.3 points per game. Sporting a youthful roster, the Eagles have struggled to a 7-12 overall record this season including just one win over the last six games. Mary Washington is faced a demanding schedule with matchups against top-25 opponents in Washington and Lee, Johns Hopkins, and next, the Captains.
Leading the Eagles is veteran guard Megan Baxter, averaging 7.9 points per game. She leads the team in three-point shooting with 17 triples while Juliona Mabie (7.8 ppg) and Adeline Riner (7.2 ppg) round out the top trio for the Eagles.
Christopher Newport will head out of town for their next game, traveling to Guilford College on Wednesday, January 29.
